Cosmic Dance
☆ COSMIC DANCE MONTHLY ☆
with DJ Moody Shapes and Light Facilitation by Brynne Flidais
Saturday, December 13th, 8:00-10:00PM

S P A C E is created for your own movement exploration, to dance with whatever is true for you, happy sad angry glad, there is space enough for it all here. The dance is what we make it together, a co-mingling of hearts, a unique expression of the present.

DJ Moody Shapes is always looking for the unique musical gems that light up the dance floor with the joy of discovery and the unexpected. Inspired by his deep love for conscious movement, Moody Shapes draws from a vast collection of world and electronic music to craft soundscapes rich in booty shaking goodness, playing a lusciously eclectic mix meant to evoke somatic exploration. Mr. Shapes began his DJing journey in 2011 for Sunday morning Dance Church in Santa Cruz and still DJs with church-like reverence for the dancers' experience, co-creating a space in which people feel free to be in their full and authentic expression; to laugh and cry; to move, shimmy, shake, and of course sweat! His prayer is that all beings know such freedom.

Brynne Flidais of Moveintuit brings Cosmic knowledge to the dance floor. Just as the moon's force pulls the ocean's tides, our bodies are influenced by the movements of celestial spheres. Blending our dance with Cosmic wisdom facilitates a deeper understanding of our physical, emotional, and spiritual selves. May we heed the lessons of the planets as we make manifest our soul's purpose.

To help us hold the container of this dance ... please no talking in the space, you are invited to communicate through your body and movement ... please request permission through eye contact or playful dance before making contact, and respect others' choice to dance alone -- hands-to-the-heart (namaste) is a good way to say "no thanks" or to end a dance... please no chemical colognes or perfumes (for those of us with sensitivities)... please respect others' inner journey and dance space... please turn your cellphone to mute. ♥

course description:

creating a personal practice
Creating a personal practice is essential to maturing one's skills as a yoga practitioner and is an integral part of studying Shadow Yoga. While persistence and devotion are required, one also needs a flexible, creative set of tools and a solid theoretical understanding to meet one's changing needs from day-to-day and to realize the inner potentials of yoga.

The once-a-month weekend workshop format will afford the time and space to delve deeply into the practical, philosophical, and energetic basis of the sequencing of the Shadow Yoga Prelude Forms, the "seed" asanas, and primary asana-vinyasas. Students will gain a deeper understanding of how to utilize Shadow Yoga for personal growth, prepare the subtle body for the internal limbs of yoga, and address special therapeutic needs such as women's and men's health and recovering from injury or illness.

about in-depth studies
The Shadow Yoga In-Depth Studies course will be the first of a two-year program designed to offer students an opportunity to learn Shadow Yoga in a methodical way that will support a fruitful home practice. The first year will focus on foundational practices such as the three Prelude Forms, Kriyas, and Ayurvedic self-care. The second year will build from this foundation toward more subtle practices such as the "seed" asanas, asana-vinyasas, and inversions.

This course is open to all levels of students. Please note that the second year course will only be available to students who have practiced all three preludes.

Ecstatic Dance
ECSTATIC DANCE SANTA CRUZ
Saturday, January 27th, 7:00-10:00pm

Ecstatic Dance Santa Cruz is a unique expression of a global movement; hosted and DJ'd by Hamid Martin and special guests. hamidmartin.com

Ecstatic Dance is a DJ'd, free-form dance/movement meditation experience. This can be a practice of surrendering to the moment and to our body's wisdom. It is an opportunity for allowing, feeling, and expressing all the emotional qualities and textures that make up this human experience; and for exploring what artistry moves through us/ as us in this expression.

You are invited to explore your inner landscape--alone and in community. What is it like to be in an environment that welcomes our inner chaos and un-groundedness? Also, what is it like to be firmly rooted in our own center, true to ourselves, while sharing space and interacting with others on the dance floor? And what unfolds when we carry this embodied truth and freedom beyond the dance floor, into our daily lives?

Also, please visit ecstaticdance.org/guidelines/ for more information supporting this global movement.

Ceremony - 7:00pm - 9:00pm

Join world-renowned shaman and healer Brant Secunda for a special evening of sacred celebration. Experience ancient ritual and dance your prayers into the altar of Mother Earth during this traditional shamanic ceremony.

Ancient Ritual - Sacred Dance - Drumming - Prayer - Community

This special community event is an opportunity to participate in indigenous ceremony, listen to ancient song and chanting, drum and rattle together, purify your mind and find vision for your life.

The Huichol Tribe
The Huichol (Wixaritari) are a small indigenous tribe of approximately 35,000, living in the Sierra Madre Mountains of Mexico. They are considered one of the last cultures in North America to have maintained their pre-Columbian traditions unto the modern day.

Origins of the Deer Dance Ceremony
According to Huichol cosmology, the origins of this ceremony date back to the birth of the Sun. The dance is a reenactment of creation itself and honors our sacred relationship to the light. Kauyumari (The Magical Deer Spirit) is representative of our super-conscious mind and acts as an intermediary between our hearts and the spiritual world of nature.

Brant Secunda
Huichol Shaman & Healer

Brant Secunda is an internationally acclaimed shaman, healer, and teacher in the indigenous Huichol tradition of Mexico. During an intensive 12-year apprenticeship, Brant became the adopted grandson and close companion of Don Jose Matsuwa, the renowned shaman who passed away in 1990 at the age of 110. Brant founded the Dance of the Deer Foundation Center for Shamanic Studies in 1979 and leads seminars, retreats, and pilgrimages worldwide. His work has been documented on television, radio, and in articles and books throughout the world.

To help provide sustainable cultural and economic support for the Huichol tribe, Brant founded the Huichol Foundation, which continues to expand upon his more than four decades of indigenous cultural preservation projects throughout the Sierra Madre Mountains and around the globe.

Alongside other dignitaries including President Jimmy Carter, Brant cofounded the Peace University in Berlin and was also a co-founder of the Humanistic Medicine Conference with the World Health Organization. Recognized as a global thought leader and spiritual teacher, Brant has been a lecturer at the Mayo Clinic, the American Holistic Medical Association Conferences and a faculty member of the Five Branches Institute of Chinese Medicine.

Striving to bridge the worlds of fitness and spirituality, Brant co-authored the award-winning book Fit Soul, Fit Body: 9 Keys to a Healthier, Happier You.

TEMPLO GUARACY: PUBLIC GIRA (RITUAL)
Sundays, 4:00 - 6:00pm

A Gira is a spiritual work open to the public and based on the Afro-Brazilian tradition of Umbanda. During the ceremony, entities of light are received by initiated mediums to offer a blessing and energetic cleansing. These entities carry a spiritual wisdom which is associated with specific qualities of consciousness and Orixas (energies found in nature).

During the ritual, sacred rhythm, song and dance prepare the space for the mediums to invoke their spiritual guides. The public may consult the guides and receive the benefit of their wisdom for cleansing, balancing, harmony and blessings.

Templo Guaracy da Terra (TGT) is a spiritual, non-profit organization that follows the Afro-Brazilian tradition of Umbanda. TGT is affiliated with Templo Guaracy do Brasil (TGB) in São Paulo and has been in the Bay area since 1994.
