Our work-study program is intended for people with a desire to live and contribute to a Spiritual Yoga Center in the heart of Santa Cruz, CA. We aim to work in the spirit of selfless service or karma yoga, one of our main practical methods of self-development.
Work-study positions are designed for six month stays, with the possibility of extending.
The Work
Work-study participants generally contribute to the following areas:
• Event set-up/breakdown
• Customer service
• Administrative
• Grounds/Gardening
• Maintenance
• Cleaning
Work-study participants contribute 18 hours per week.
The Study
Participants are offered access to Yoga classes, Bhagavad-Gita study, Kirtan chanting, and other materials to further one's understanding of the eightfold path of Ashtanga Yoga. Participants also get to learn about group process decision making, how to live in community, and the ins and outs of running a yoga studio.
The Accommodations
Work-study participants are offered accommodations at the Center during their stay. Housing consists of a private room and a shared bathroom. Meals are not provided (though participants sometimes have potluck dinners together).
The 411
The Center is drug and alcohol-free
The Center is vegetarian (eggs are okay)
The Center is at the intersection of two busy and sometimes noisy streets
Our work-study program is educational by nature, but can be physically and emotionally demanding. We seek a diverse group of energetic and responsible individuals who are enthusiastic about the experience of living and serving together in a yoga community in which "service" is a core value and practice and who are dedicated to their own self development and to the well being of the community.
